Dvorak wrong with talks about the death of OSX
Published by finn February 25th, 2006 in techno-geek, softwareI found an article about Why John C. Dvorak is Wrong About Apple. After reading the article, I had to agree, Dvorak is crazy. Why would Apple give up the one thing that makes Macs so great, the OS?
Admittedly, I only have Wintel PC’s right now. Four even: my work laptop (a ThinkPad T42), Katie’s laptop (a Dell Latitude D400), my home desktop (an eMachines T3393), and a spare laptop (a Compaq Presario 2700) that used to be my primary computer. Add to that the fact that I work in a totally Microsoft shop, and the tally is squarley in favor of Microsoft. To be fair, Windows has come a long way since the days of the Windows run-time environment that I first used many years ago with Aldus Pagemaker.
But the Macintosh… the Mac has always had sex appeal. Even in the days of the black & white original Macs. I’ve had several Macs over the years - a Mac 512k, a Mac LC, a Mac IIvx, a PowerMac 7100/66, a PowerBook Duo 270c. Yeah, they were expensive… much more expensive than their PC counterparts, but they were great and I loved them. I went to PC’s after using Macs exclusively for years because of a project I was working on that required some proprietary motion control software and hardware that was not available for the Mac. I’ve had PC’s ever since because once I gave up my Mac, it was cost prohibitive to go back. I’ve missed my Macs over the years and I lust after them whenever I see one. One day I will ditch my personal PC and go back, switch back even.
Macs are just sexier and way more fun
